Often, when inquiring about Rongxing electrode paste, the term "closed-type paste" comes up. Some might wonder: if I ask for closed-type paste, is it appropriate to quote regular electrode paste? Are they the same thing?

In fact, closed-type paste is a type of electrode paste—electrode paste includes closed-type paste, so closed-type paste can also be referred to as electrode paste.

Electrode paste, also known as self-baking electrode, is a semi-finished electrode material made from raw materials such as calcined coal and spent electrodes as aggregates, and pitch or tar as binders. During use, the electrode paste is poured into a submerged arc furnace and heated to around 400°C, where it melts and sintered into a solid form. When heated further to approximately 800°C, it combines with the ore to generate intense electric arc heat, enabling the smelting process.

The term "closed-type paste" refers specifically to the furnace design. Submerged arc furnaces are categorized into closed-type, semi-closed-type, and open-type models. All these furnace types use electrode paste; however, due to differences in furnace structure, over time, electrode paste used in closed-type furnaces has come to be called "closed-type electrode paste," abbreviated as "closed-type paste." Electrode paste used in open or semi-closed furnaces is generally referred to as standard electrode paste or simply electrode paste. Closed-type paste is thus a subset of electrode paste.

Generally speaking, closed-type electrode paste tends to have higher quality than standard electrode paste, with superior performance across various indicators. The reason for this improved quality lies in its stricter production processes and formulations. Closed-type furnaces operate under more demanding conditions, requiring electrode paste with enhanced oxidation resistance and high-temperature stability. Therefore, the manufacturing of closed-type paste involves more refined raw material selection and tighter production controls, ensuring optimal final product performance.
